Alessandro Boscolo•Blowing, Shaping, and Murano Techniques in the Flame

July 20, 2026 @ 09:00 July 24, 2026 @ 17:00

In this workshop, we will explore the essential foundations of intricate and highly controlled process. We will begin with the rudiments of blowing, understanding how much glass to inflate and in what proportion, while mastering the blow hose and roller to regulate temperature and heat distribution before each inflation.

Students will then practice shaping, learning how to move and balance molten glass while maintaining the correct wall thickness. A completely new element will be introduced to the lampworking discipline: the avoli, connection joints traditionally used in furnace glassblowing, here adapted to the lampworking method.

Participants will also learn how to use blades instead of jacks, an approach that allows opening goblets and forming bottle necks in the traditional Murano style, yet entirely executed in the flame.

The most fundamental and crucial aspect of this course is achieving uniform thickness throughout the entire form. Mastering this principle opens unlimited possibilities within lampworking blown glass, transforming technical precision into pure artistic expression.
