Emma Varga•Discover the Magic of Patte de Verre
July 7 @ 09:00 – July 18 @ 17:00
Emma will introduce her innovative way of using many Pâte de Verre processes, quite unusual and distinctive from the usual meaning assigned to Pâte de Verre technique.
Eliminating ’glass paste’ from her pâte de verre methods and a vast number of shortcuts and simple methods, developed in the past 14 years, made the process quicker and easier and offered many new solutions.
Practical work will start with creating small Pâte de Verre elements using frits and powders, which can be further used to build larger 3-dimensional objects: fused-cast sculptures, constructed objects and textured wall panels.
The simplicity of the processes and absence of coldworking will enable participants to create several finalized projects by the end of 10 day class.
At all times during the course, students will have access to extensive digital gallery on file in Emma’s laptop: images of recent work as well as close-ups revealing fine details on layers inside the glass object. At the same time, Emma will be creating her own small projects, demonstrating the practical steps of her methods. Recording, discussing and understanding the super sensitive firing schedules for pâte de verre objects is a very important part of this course and will be thoroughly explained, along with guidelines for creating firing schedules for each type and size of fused/cast objects.
The cost includes accommodation in a 4-person room, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
