Dylan Katz•Breaking Boundaries, Forging Connections
June 15 @ 09:00 – June 26 @ 17:00
This workshop is divided into three stages of creative exploration, each building on the last as we move from individual discovery to shared artistic experience. We start with some preliminary creative exercises to set ideas in motion, move into a week of deep personal experimentation, and conclude with a second week centered on collaborative work.
Pre-Workshop
Before the workshop begins, participants will receive a short set of creative exercises to help start shaping ideas. These early reflections encourage careful observation and give everyone a few sparks to build from so that when we meet, we can begin working right away.
Week 1 — Breaking Boundaries
The first week focuses on learning how to break out of our well-crafted comfort zone and explore the wider artistic potential of hot glass. We will look at how inspiration can be developed as a skill, how to recognize what draws our attention, and how to translate that essence back into the material. Glassblowing will be approached as a language for self-expression. We will explore how process influences meaning, how technique becomes voice, and how changing the way a piece is made can shift what it communicates. Throughout the week, participants will develop one strong idea, allowing it to grow through testing, color studies, form exploration, and prototyping.
Week 2 — Forging Connections
The second week turns toward collaboration and the creative possibilities that emerge when we work together. Participants will combine ideas, skills, and perspectives to explore how shared making can expand or reshape artistic intent. We will look at how to communicate clearly within a team, how to blend different approaches into a cohesive piece, and how trust, exchange, and collective problem-solving influence the final outcome. The week will conclude with collaborative works that balance personal voice with collective vision.
