Tone Ørvik•Exploring expression with glass

July 13, 2026 @ 09:00 July 24, 2026 @ 17:00

Have you ever wanted to experiment with narrative sculpture, making portrait sketches cast in affordable glass? This workshop teaches the basics of the human face in relief, investigating anatomy while emphasizing expression over detailed likeness.

Using cast glass and pâte de verre techniques, we will bypass wax models and go directly from clay to plaster-silica molds to test out the aesthetics of recycled glass from bottles, windows, and scraps. You will also learn how to make your own color palette with ceramic oxides.

In this workshop we look at the myths and narratives about glass itself; the recent shift in perceptions about translucency and opacity in glass; and what works for you when experimenting with glass as sculptural medium.
