John Moran•Alive! Sculpting from Life

This course will cover both solid hot sculpting and outside sculpting of the bubble. We will focus on sculpting from life to create realistic objects. Students will begin to create their own sculpting vocabulary by developing original techniques, problem solving, and the use of standard glass-blowing techniques. They will see how to go about making decisions while in the midst of the process, but at the same time following a plan. We will cover the basics of solid sculpting, the hot torch, and the use of color combinations to create realistic components. Students will rely heavily on each other and learn to communicate with their partners, as most of the sculpting will be done from outside the bench. We will focus mainly on working technically, but during the course of the demonstrations, we will discuss concept. The class will work mainly from sketchbooks and/or printed images.
