Intensive Workshops

This workshop has been prepared to introduce and allow participants to experience the glass-embedded ceramics method uniquely developed by Prof. Mustafa Ağatekin. In fact, both ceramics and glass are art fields with technical requirements and limitations that demand technical knowledge, equipment, and experience. These necessities not only determine the conditions under which the two materials can be used together through a thermal process, but also directly affect the boundaries and outcomes of their interaction. Throughout the workshop, the artist will conduct a program consisting of practical applications aimed at exploring the possibilities of using glass and ceramic materials together.

The first week focuses on breaking out of our well-crafted comfort zone and explore the wider artistic potential of hot glass. We will look at how inspiration can be developed as a skill, how to recognize what draws our attention, and how to translate that essence back into the material. Glassblowing will be approached as a language for self-expression. We will explore how process influences meaning, how technique becomes voice, and how changing the way a piece is made can shift what it communicates. Throughout the week, participants will develop one strong idea, allowing it to grow through testing, color studies, form exploration, and prototyping before finally producing fully realized works.

This immersive workshop invites students to explore the boundaries of lampworking through the vision of Maestro Lucio Bubacco. The course aims to guide participants through the conceptualization and execution of glass sculptures, crafted entirely from COE 104 glass using traditional and innovative lampworking techniques.

This workshop will offer students the opportunity to learn the fundamentals and intricate details of glassworking. Emphasizing traditional techniques and modern artistry, Jason will guide students through every step of the glass-creation process, from the initial design to the final touches.

Have you ever wanted to experiment with narrative sculpture, making portrait sketches cast in affordable glass? This workshop teaches the basics of the human face in relief, investigating anatomy while emphasizing expression over detailed likeness.

In this workshop, we will explore the essential foundations of intricate and highly controlled process. We will begin with the rudiments of blowing, understanding how much glass to inflate and in what proportion, while mastering the blow hose and roller to regulate temperature and heat distribution before each inflation.

Students will develop clear project goals while mastering the essential steps for creating purposeful and personalized glass works. This intensive introductory course focuses on identifying individual artistic voice and designing glasswork that engages the imagination and challenges technical boundaries.

In this idea based, experimental course we will explore a specific kiln forming, pate de verre process. Using a variety of mould-making materials (plaster, silica, wax, clay, fibre frax, alginate) this technique will allow us to transfer drawings, handwriting and textures from a mould onto glass. Starting with fusing flat glass sheets that carry our individual designs we will continue into three dimensions by manipulating the glass in the kiln during the firing as well as exploring various slumping methods.

Learn to sculpt botanical forms at the torch using both borosilicate and soft glass. We’ll cover core techniques for shaping leaves, flowers, vines, and other organic elements while exploring how each type of glass behaves.
