A workshop by Gerry King, Andreas Döringer & Retief van Wyk

Contemporary glass spans the disciplines of art, design and craft. This workshop will concentrate on strengthening ways to enhance your capacity to exploit the qualities of your art works as the basis of design projects and visa versa. It will cover; acquiring techniques, sharpening your creative tools, ways of approaching your works and the crafting ability to get the result that you intend.

This is not a workshop about learning one technique and being able to make a work that looks like the teacher’s. It will be turning your ideas into glass and caters for all levels of creativity and skill; people without glass experience, seasoned professionals and artists from other media wanting to try glass.

Gerry and Andreas have worked together for many years in Australia and Turkey presenting workshops, exhibiting works and designing projects. Gerry is an internationally renowned artist with works housed in many public, corporate and private collections worldwide. He was formerly Head of the School of Design at the University of South Australia. From Austria, Andreas is a formally qualified Master Glassworker operating his own business and exhibiting glass sculptures with works collected by individuals and corporations. This year they are joined by Retief van Wyk, recently retired founding Subject Leader of Glass Studies at Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa. He has 20 years of successfully designing, marketing and making commissioned works for a wide range of clients, [including Ophra Winfrey]. Retief regularly exhibits both glass and ceramics. Their wealth of talent and experience will be tuned to meet your particular glass requirements. Expect to work hard and fast, to have your ideas challenged, to learn many skills and to have great fun. The class is taught in English with translation to Turkish, German, Dutch or Afrikaans if required.

The workshop fee includes, lunch and workshop materials specified by the tutor. Please click here for information about the campus, rules and regulations, accommodation options and transportation info.
