Rene Culler was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1956. She has worked as a professional artist since 1973, but returned to school as an older non-traditional artist to achieve her degrees in Art/Glass; a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1992 and an MFA, summa cum laude from Kent State University in 1994. She has been affiliated with both institutions as an instructor in Glass. Culler has also studied at the Pilchuck School in Washington State and the Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York. She was a student of the Lacoste School of the Arts in Provence, France.Culler has blown glass for nearly 20 years. Her process involves smoke and steam as she shapes the glass using wet paper or blocks. The artist’s work has appeared in many collections and publications, including “500 Glass Objects,” published by Lark Books.
