B. Jane Cowie
B. Jane Cowie has been working glass for over 20 years. After gaining a degree in Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts, her commitment to art making, desire to learn and passion for glass inspired her to travel extensively. She has worked in numerous glass making studios and factories in Australia, England, Europe, USA, China and Japan to develop technical skill and an intimate understanding of glassmaking techniques and applications. Jane has played an important role in the development of contemporary craft in South Australia as a Board Member of the JamFactory Craft Centre and of CraftSouth. She was also a Board Member of Ausglass: The Australian Association of Glass Artists and President for 2 years, co-ordinating an Ausglass Conference in 2001. Jane has curated exhibitions and taught glass making in a variety of institutions and private studios since 1995. In 2005 she was awarded a Masters Degree of Visual Arts for her thesis – A Glassmakers Perspective: History and Practice of Studio Glassmaking in South Australia. Continuing to exhibit widely in Australia, Europe, Japan and Singapore, Jane is included in numerous public and private collections. Jane continues to develop her practice as an individual artist. More recently she has been designing and developing large art glass installations as Creative Director of Art Glass Solutions. These artworks are created for private, commercial and public spaces within Singapore, The Philippines, Macau and China. It is clear he passion for glass and art making continues unabated.
