Mert Ungor was born in Antalya, Turkey in 1989. He graduated in 2014 from the Visual Arts Program of Sabanci University, focusing on sculpture. However, during his last year at university he had a fortuitous meeting with glass art. In 2014 he applied and was accepted as a TA at the Glass Furnace in Istanbul, Turkey.

Mert had a chance to assist many different glass artists from all around the world including Frantisek Janak, Vladimir Klein, and Paul Marioni. He was invited to West Texas A&M University by Chad Holliday to pursue his Masters in 2014. During his studies in 2016 Mert interned at the Tacoma Museum of Glass where he worked with their team to assist master glass artists such as Lino Tagliapietra. After completing his MFA Mert was invited to be an artist in residency at Glass Art Kalamazoo, MI through the summer of 2017, followed by an invitation of the same title at Water Street Glassworks in Benton Harbor, MI. He completed both residencies with a solo exhibition and during his tenure in Michigan he instructed many studio classes. Including an invitation to be a faculty member at Ox-Bow School of Art, an extension of The Chicago Institute of Art, in the summer of 2018.
